Muse’s Matt Bellamy Is a Werewolf With a Sports Car in ‘Something Human’ Music Video

Song serves as the second single off the band’s new album, available in November

July 26, 2018

Muse frontman Matt Bellamy sets off on an epic adventure to return a VCR tape in the official music video for “Something Human,” the second single off the highly influential British rock band’s November 2018 album.

Directed by Lance Drake—the filmmaker behind the video for the new album’s previous single, “Thought Contagion”—“Something Human” begins with wolves howling in the moonlight as Bellamy’s hanging out beside his sports car on the outskirts of a town full of “infected.” In addition to singing the melodic tune’s opening lyrics, Matt also appears to be wearing a virtual reality headset hooked up to an old-school VCR and in the machine is a tape called “Simulation Theory,” the rumored title of the band’s next album.

Wary perhaps of exorbitant late fees, Matt speeds off into town on a quest to return the tape. To get there, however, he’ll have to outrun a pair of surly cops (played by his bandmates Dominic Howard and Chris Wolstenholme). One thing leads to another and suddenly Matt transforms into a werewolf who’s apparently still quite capable of driving a sports car.

“Life on the road can bring out your inner beast, this song and video is about taming that beast, desiring a return to something human,” Bellamy explained in a statement to NME. “Plus, ‘Teen Wolf’ is cool.”
