VIDEO: Gerard Butler Must Rescue the Russian President and Avert World War 3 in ‘Hunter Killer’ Trailer

Submarine-set action-thriller co-stars Common, Linda Cardellini, and Oscar winner Gary Oldman

Stern Show veteran Gerard Butler and his submarine crew are all the last line of defense against World War III in the new trailer for “Hunter Killer,” an upcoming military thriller co-starring recent Oscar winner Gary Oldman.

The trailer (above) begins with Captain Joe Glass (Butler) on a routine but dangerous mission deep under the Arctic Ocean. After the Pentagon discovers a Russian coup in progress, however, he’s given new orders: lead a team of U.S. Navy SEALs behind enemy lines to rescue the kidnapped Russian president in the hopes of averting a global catastrophe.

Gerard, of course, has on-screen experience both with rescuing presidents and saving the planet. In 2017, he was tasked with staving off the apocalypse from outer space in the disaster film “Geostorm” and before that Gerard was twice forced to rescue the U.S. president in “Olympus Has Fallen” and its 2016 sequel, “London Has Fallen.” Despite his characters’ grandiose exploits, Gerard once told Howard it was actually the low-budget indie flick “Trainspotting” which first inspired him to become an actor. Directed by Donovan Marsh and based on the 2012 novel “Firing Point,” “Hunter Killer” also features Common (“Suicide Squad”), Linda Cardellini (“Freaks & Geeks”), and the late Michael Nyqvist (“John Wick”).

“Hunter Killer” opens Oct. 26. Watch the official trailer (above).
