VIDEO: Charlize Theron Stars as an Overwhelmed Mom in Need of a Nanny in ‘Tully’

Mark Duplass, Ron Livingston, and Mackenzie Davis star in the Jason Reitman-directed drama

January 11, 2018

Charlize Theron has conquered alien monsters, Soviet spies, and dystopian desert dwellers in recent years, but with motherhood she seems to have finally found her match.

On Thursday, Focus Features dropped the trailer for “Tully,” an upcoming drama following an overwhelmed mother of three (Theron) whose newborn leaves her with little sleep and whose husband (Ron Livingston) complains about frozen pizza for dinner. Sensing her exhaustion, her brother (Mark Duplass) gifts her a quirky young night nanny named Tully (Mackenzie Davis).

When Charlize made her Stern show debut last July, she told Howard how much she enjoyed working with director Jason Reitman on the film in addition to discussing wage equality, nearly turning down an Oscar-winning role, and what it took to train for her recent spy thriller “Atomic Blonde.” While she didn’t speak specifically about child-rearing, the actress did open up about her love live, including an “incredible” date she had recently enjoyed.

“Tully” comes from the same team behind the Oscar-winning film “Juno” (Jason Reitman and writer Diablo Cody), which Jason joined the Stern Show to discuss back in 2008. Their new film hits theaters April 20.
