Heart songwriter and lead singer Ann Wilson channeled Chris Cornell in her new cover of the Audioslave single “I Am the Highway.” The song hails from her upcoming tribute album “Immortal,” a compilation of covers paying homage to recently deceased rock legends, including Chris, David Bowie, Tom Petty, Amy Winehouse, Gerry Rafferty, and the Eagles’ Glenn Frey.

Check out Wilson’s acoustic rendition of “I Am the Highway” (below).

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Wilson revealed the 2017 death of Chris affected her greatly, eventually inspiring her to create her forthcoming collection of covers. Earlier this year she also teamed with Jerry Cantrell of Alice in Chains to perform a tribute to Cornell at the 2018 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Wilson is far from the only one who has honored the Audioslave and Soundgarden singer since his untimely death, of course. Howard paid tribute to longtime Stern Show guest on-air and just last month Chris’s 13-year-old daughter Toni released a duet with her father, a cover of Prince’s “Nothing Compares 2 U.”

While Ann has never released anything quite like “Immortal,” she has honored other rock legends in the past. Ann and her sister Nancy made headlines in 2012 after their band Heart teamed up with John Bonham’s son Jason to deliver a well-regarded cover of Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven.” Hear Zeppelin frontman Robert Plant tell Howard why that tribute brought a tear to his eye here.
