Bruce Springsteen Downs Whiskey, Gin, and a Little Blue Pill in ‘Western Stars’ Music Video

Song serves as the title track off the Boss’s 19th studio album, out Friday

Bruce Springsteen pulls double duty as an aging actor and the frontman for a roadhouse band in the official music video for “Western Stars,” the latest song off his album of the same name, available Friday.

The tune’s lyrics and accompanying video concern themselves with an aging movie star who once acted alongside John Wayne but now has been relegated to credit card commercials and the like. Not only does the Boss appear in the clip as the song’s reminiscent protagonist—who spends his time driving around in an El Camino, drinking gin and juice in the dressing room, and saddling up to a whiskey and beer at a bar—but Bruce and his band can also be seen performing on stage in a dive bar.

The tune follows “Tucson Train,” “Hello Sunshine,” and “There Goes My Miracle,” as songs released off “Western Stars,” Bruce’s first studio album since 2014’s “High Hopes.” Springsteen has remained busy since then, however, touring the world, putting on an exclusive show for SiriusXM subscribers, and masterminding his own Tony-winning concert special, “Springsteen on Broadway.”

“This record is a return to my solo recordings featuring character driven songs and sweeping, cinematic orchestral arrangements,” Springsteen said in a previous statement describing “Western Stars.” “It’s a jewel box of a record.”

Bruce Springsteen’s “Western Stars” is available now.
