VIDEO: Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Rob Corddry Face Their Destiny in ‘Ballers’ Season 5 Trailer
HBO’s acclaimed sports management comedy returns Aug. 25
August 9, 2019There’s more to the wide world of sports than what happens on the playing field, at least according to Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson and Stern Show celebrity superfan Rob Corddry’s acclaimed comedy “Ballers,” returning later this month.
HBO has released the official Season 5 trailer for its Emmy-nominated sports management series and superstar football player turned financial manager Spencer Strasmore (Johnson) appears to be reflecting on what his life has become. “I always wondered what was out there. The future. Destiny intervened on my behalf,” his character says soberly to cameras in a studio. “But you can’t escape the past.”
His longtime business partner Joe Krutel (Corddry), meanwhile, still seems focused on making money and having fun. “I just want to build a SportsX mecca,” Corddry’s character explains over a montage of pool parties, exotic locales, fast cars, and scantily clad women.
“Ballers” was created by Stephen Levinson and is executive produced by Levinson, Johnson, director Peter Berg, and repeat Stern Show guest Mark Wahlberg, among others. In addition to the Rock and Rob, the show stars fellow Stern Show veteran Russell Brand, Omar Benson Miller, Arielle Kebbel, Troy Garity, Donovan W. Carter, and “BlacKkKlansman’s” John David Washington.
“Ballers” Season 5 debuts Aug. 25 at 10:30 p.m. on HBO.
