VIDEO: Charlize Theron, Margot Robbie, and Nicole Kidman Share an Intense Elevator Ride in First Look at Fox News Drama ‘Bombshell’

John Lithgow and Kate McKinnon also star in the December dramatization of media mogul Roger Ailes' downfall

Charlize Theron shares a quietly dramatic elevator ride with Margot Robbie and Nicole Kidman in the first-look teaser for “Bombshell,” the upcoming film about the culture at the Fox News Channel leading up to the downfall of its architect, Roger Ailes.

Theron and Kidman portray Megyn Kelly and Gretchen Carlson, respectively—two Fox News personalities who came forward with allegations of sexual impropriety against Ailes (John Lithgow) in 2016. Robbie stars opposite them as Kayla Pospisil, an associate producer for the cable news network who was invented for the movie. The short trailer begins with Kayla being summoned to the second floor of FNC headquarters while her colleagues, including one played by “Saturday Night Live” standout Kate McKinnon, silently watch on.

Gretchen and Megyn eventually catch the elevator, too, and together the three blonde bombshells embark on a tense, painfully awkward ride. “Hot in here,” Kidman’s character remarks, finally breaking the ice.

Charlize serves as a co-producer on “Bombshell,” directed by Jay Roach (“All the Way”) and co-starring Allison Janney, Connie Britton, Mark Duplass, Rob Delaney, and Malcolm McDowell as Rupert Murdoch. While Charlize doesn’t speak in the trailer, she had plenty to say about the film during her and Seth Rogen’s joint 2019 visit to the Stern Show. The Oscar-winning actress revealed she hadn’t met with Megyn Kelly before shooting the film, though she still did her best to portray the TV star as honestly as possible.

“I’m conflicted about her, but I also think that makes for a great human being. I mean, people are conflicted about me … I think people have issues with some of my shit,” Charlize told Howard. Check out a clip from her most recent visit to the Stern Show (below).

“Bombshell” opens in theaters in December.
