VIDEO: Michael B. Jordan Fights for Jamie Foxx’s Life in ‘Just Mercy’ Trailer

Biographical film also starring Brie Larson opens Christmas Day

September 6, 2019

“It’s never too late for justice,” Michael B. Jordan declares in the first trailer for “Just Mercy.”

Based on a New York Times best-selling memoir, the “Creed” star portrays Bryan Stevenson, the attorney who defends death row inmate Walter McMillan (played by Oscar winner and repeat Stern show guest Jamie Foxx). Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton (“The Glass Castle”), “Just Mercy” follows Stevenson as he’s tasked with saving the life of McMillan, who was convicted of a murder that evidence proves he did not commit.

“Your life is still meaningful and I am going to do everything possible to keep them from taking it,” Jordan tells Foxx (above).

The film also stars another Oscar winner, Brie Larson, whom John Goodman praised as “charismatic” and “incredible” to Howard back in 2016 when he talked about co-starring with her in “Kong: Skull Island.” Larson’s Eva Ansley helps open the Equal Justice Initiative, a legal center for death row inmates that Stevenson creates to assist death row prisoners when McMillan initially turns down his representation.

“Just Mercy” will have a limited theatrical release on Dec. 25 followed by a wide release Jan. 10
