VIDEO: Jon Bernthal Brings the Pain in ‘The Punisher’ Season 2 Official Trailer

Stern Show guest’s explosive Marvel series returns Jan. 18 to Netflix

January 10, 2019

Jon Bernthal once again finds himself backed into a corner and forced to punch, kick, and shoot his way out in the new trailer for Netflix’s “The Punisher” Season 2, premiering later this month.

Set to the classic Alice in Chains tune “Would,” the clip (above) begins with Frank Castle (Bernthal), a.k.a. Marvel’s murderous vigilante the Punisher, bloodying himself up in a bar brawl to save Amy, played by series newcomer Giorgia Whigham.

No good deed goes unpunished, however, and Frank soon gets sucked into yet another life-or-death situation while also getting an earful from the young woman he’s just saved. “Why did you help me in the bar that night?” she asks him (above), adding “It’s almost like you were happy for the excuse.”

Happy or not, he’ll also soon have to contend with a creepy-looking dude in a black hat (Josh Stewart) and the return of Billy Russo (Ben Barnes), whose transformation into the psychotic villain Jigsaw seems nearly complete. “I dreamed about the Punisher every night,” Billy says over a montage of ominous glares and weapons getting loaded. “I want him to feel what I felt.”

But judging from all violence Frank dispenses over the course of the trailer, his enemies are the ones who should be fearing for their safety. “I’m not the one who dies, kid,” Jon’s character tells Amy (above). “I’m the one who does the killing.”

Bernthal made his Stern Show debut in late 2017, sitting down with Howard just a few days ahead of “The Punisher” Season 1 premiere. In addition to discussing his portrayal of the iconic Marvel comic book character, Jon spoke to Howard about filming a controversial “Walking Dead” sex scene, slapping fellow Stern Show veteran Jonah Hill in “The Wolf of Wall Street,” and his improbable start as an actor. “Marvel’s The Punisher” Season 2, also starring Amber Rose Revah, Jason R. Moore, and Deborah Ann Woll, debuts Jan. 18 on Netflix.
