VIDEO: Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson Saves the World With Frenemy Jason Statham in ‘Fast & Furious’ Spinoff ‘Hobbs & Shaw’

August action-comedy co-stars Idris Elba, Vanessa Kirby, and Eiza González

After kicking each other’s asses across multiple “Fast & Furious” films, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Jason Statham are tentatively teaming up to save the world in the upcoming action-comedy “Hobbs & Shaw.”

The actors reprise their roles as lawman Luke Hobbs (the Rock) and rogue former MI6 agent Deckard Shaw (Statham) in the “Fast & Furious” spinoff film which sees them putting their past altercations aside (kind of) while they work together to bring down a cyber-genetically enhanced, bulletproof bad guy played by Idris Elba.

Both characters were known to inject levity into their “Fast & Furious” films, so it’s little surprise “Hobbs & Shaw” teases a more comedic tone than its speed-obsessed predecessors. But the trailer highlights plenty of action, too.

“I’m what you call an ice-cold can of whoop ass,” the Rock explains before indiscriminately pummeling a bunch of guys. He then proceeds to throw chairs into windows, plow through cars in an armored truck, chase villains through a radioactive Chernobyl, and even jump off a skyscraper without a parachute so he can pummel even more men in midair.

Directed by “Deadpool 2,” “Atomic Blonde,” and “John Wick’s” David Leitch, the film co-stars Vanessa Kirby (“Mission: Impossible – Fallout”), wrestler Roman Reigns, Eiza González, and Dame Helen Mirren, who reprises her role in the franchise as Statham’s mum.

“Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw” hits theaters Aug. 2.
