VIDEO: Alec Baldwin Plays Himself and a Larger-Than-Life Automotive Pioneer in ‘Framing John DeLorean’ Trailer

Stern Show regular's new documentary-drama hybrid rolls into theaters on June 7

March 13, 2019

Stern Show regular Alec Baldwin pulls double duty in the trailer for “Framing John DeLorean,” an upcoming film about the life and misadventures of the famed engineer, executive, and playboy who invented one of the 1980s’ most memorable cars before getting arrested for trafficking cocaine.

The movies, much like DeLorean’s stainless steel sports car immortalized in the “Back to the Future” trilogy, takes an unusual approach. It blends elements of both a biopic and documentary with Baldwin playing DeLorean in dramatized portions of the film and himself in scenes featuring archived footage and testimonials.

“I’m gonna try and be DeLorean,” Baldwin explains in the trailer just before getting into character.

Of course, DeLorean isn’t the only controversial figure Baldwin has embodied in recent years. He also won an Emmy for his ongoing portrayal of President Donald Trump on “Saturday Night Live.” Alec spoke all about the role during a 2017 visit and, more recently, told Howard he’d be able to win the White House himself were he to run for the highest office in the land.

Written by Tamir Ardon, Don Argott, and Sheena M. Joyce and directed by Argott and Joyce, “Framing John DeLorean” co-stars Morena Baccarin, Josh Charles, and Dean Winters.

“Framing John DeLorean” will premiere at New York City’s Tribeca Film Festival before arriving in theaters and Video On-Demand on June 7.
