VIDEO: James Franco, Seth Rogen, and Megan Fox Paint a Sex, Booze, and Punk Rock-Filled Portrait of Hollywood in ‘Zeroville’ Red Band Trailer
Franco also directs the late '60s-set film, opening in September
August 16, 2019James Franco gets more than he bargained for after heading to Hollywood in the red band trailer for “Zeroville,” a comedy-drama he directed co-starring fellow Stern Show veteran Seth Rogen and actress Megan Fox.
Franco plays Vikar, a lost soul who has portraits of his silver screen idols Elizabeth Taylor and Montgomery Clift tattooed onto his shaved head before setting out to make it in the movie biz circa 1969. After getting a job on set, he quickly befriends the film’s cigar-smoking writer Viking Man (Rogen) and foul-mouthed editor (Jacki Weaver), both of whom take him under their wing and show him all the sex, booze, and punk rock Hollywood has to offer. Vikar soon grows obsessed with a captivating actress (Fox) and his journey takes a turn for the surreal as the two set out on a quest to learn more about a mysterious movie.
Franco directed “Zeroville,” adapting it from Steve Erickson’s acclaimed 2007 novel of the same name. The cast also features Joey King, Will Ferrell, Danny McBride, Craig Robinson, Horatio Sanz, Thomas Ian Nicholas, and Dave Franco. The film’s trailer arrives just a few weeks after the release of another movie about Tinseltown in 1969, Quentin Tarantino’s “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.”
James last visited the Stern Show in 2017 with Tommy Wiseau to promote “The Disaster Artist,” yet another film he directed and starred in about the business of making movies. The multi-hyphenate entertainer spoke to Howard during that visit about everything from staying in character between takes to perfecting various accents. Listen to a clip from the interview (below).
“Zeroville” opens Sept. 20.
