VIDEO: Gerard Butler Battles a Planet-Smashing Comet in ‘Greenland’ Official Trailer

Whether he’s averting World War III from a nuclear submarine or dismantling out-of-control satellites in outer space, Gerard Butler has saved the Earth in a variety of ways over the past few years, but in his upcoming disaster flick “Greenland” the actor and Stern Show veteran faces off against his biggest challenge yet: a planet-smashing comet.
The trailer follows John Garrity (Butler), his estranged wife Allison (“Gotham’s” Morena Baccarin), and their young son (Roger Dale Floyd) as they scramble to outrun deadly comet fragments falling from the sky. It’s a countdown to the apocalypse, but Butler quickly develops a plan to stave off extinction by holing up in a military safe haven in Greenland.
“I swear I’m going to get my family into that bunker,” he vows at one point (above).
Directed by Butler’s “Angel Has Fallen” collaborator Ric Roman Waugh, “Greenland” also stars King Bach, David Denman, and “Daredevil’s” Scott Glenn.
“Greenland” arrives August 14.
