Disaster strikes Hugh Grant and Nicole Kidman’s seemingly happy family in the HBO miniseries “The Undoing,” arriving in October.

From Emmy-winning showrunner David E. Kelley (“Big Little Lies”) and director Susanne Bier (“The Night Manager”), the six-part drama follows Grace (Kidman) and Jonathan Fraser (Grant), a New York City couple who, according to the show’s description, are living the only lives they ever wanted for themselves. Grace is a successful therapist poised to publish her first book when suddenly she’s confronted with a violent death, a missing husband, and a chain of terrible revelations.

Based on the novel “You Should Have Known,” by Jean Hanff Korelitz, the series co-stars Édgar Ramírez, Noah Jupe, Lily Rabe, Noma Dumezweni, and Donald Sutherland.

“The Undoing’s” first trailer doesn’t spoil any major plot details, though it does tease police helicopters, blood-spattered sidewalks, and pensive looks aplenty as well as dramatic shots of Grant and Kidman’s characters running across bridges and through hospital hallways.

“This is what rich, entitled people do when threatened. They conceal the ugly truths to protect themselves, and they think they can get away with it,” Dumezweni’s character explains (above).

It’s unclear which ugly truths Grant’s character might be trying to conceal on “The Undoing,” but during his Stern Show debut in 2016 the actor memorably spoke to Howard about a real-life criminal scandal he was embroiled in back in England. Watch a clip from their conversation (below).

The Undoing” debuts Oct. 25 on HBO.
