A darkness has descended over Gotham City in the first full-length teaser for next year’s “The Batman,” but one caped crusader has a plan to clean up the streets.

The Matt Reeves-directed film sees actor and Stern Show veteran Robert Pattinson making his debut as the legendary DC Comics superhero, who contends this time around with villains like the Riddler (Paul Dano), Penguin (Colin Farrell), and mobster Carmine Falcone (John Turturro) as well as Suzanne “Underdog” Muldowney’s personal favorite: Catwoman (Zoë Kravitz).

Set to a slowed-down rendition of Nirvana’s “Something in the Way,” the moody clip (above) sees the Dark Knight investigate a high-profile, enigmatic murder alongside the city’s top cop Jim Gordon (Jeffrey Wright) and Bruce Wayne’s iconic butler Alfred Pennyworth (Andy Serkis). Actions speaks louder than words in the teaser as Pattinson wordlessly saves a bystander from an out-of-control car, goes claw-to-claw with Catwoman, and does his best to dispense justice the only way he knows how. The mostly stoic Batman does deliver one line, however, while beating up a face-paint-wearing group of thugs.

“Who the hell are you supposed to be?” a bad guy asks.

“I’m vengeance,” Robert’s character responds.

Pattinson was of course more talkative during his 2017 Stern Show debut. The actor spoke candidly of starring in the “Twilight” franchise, getting expelled from school for stealing dirty magazines, and even whether or not he ever thought he’d play a big screen superhero. Listen to his conversation with Howard (below).

“The Batman” arrives Oct. 1, 2021 in theaters.
