Smashing Pumpkins Drop 2 New Songs, ‘Confessions of a Dopamine Addict’ and ‘Wrath’

Tracks appear on Stern Show veterans’ upcoming double-album “CYR”

It’s a big day for Smashing Pumpkins fans.

On Friday, the rock band released “Confessions of a Dopamine Addict” (above) and “Wrath” (below) two new singles from its upcoming double-album “CYR.” Additionally, frontman Billy Corgan debuted the first two episodes of his animated series “In Ashes.”

The Pumpkins announced the new album just last week while also sharing two of its songs, “The Colour of Love” and title track “CYR.” “‘CYR’ is dystopic folly,” Corgan said in a statement about the album. “One soul against the world sort of stuff set against a backdrop of shifting loyalties and sped up time. To me it stands as both hopeful and dismissive of what is and isn’t possible with faith.”

The 20-song effort is the band’s second release since founding members Billy, guitarist James Iha, and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin reunited (along with relative newcomer Jeff Schroeder) on the Stern Show in 2018. The rock legends enjoyed an epic sit-down with Howard that day, opening up about everything from how the band got back together to the time one of them had a run-in with a shapeshifter. They also performed live in the Stern Show studio, unleashing a memorable version of “Bullet With Butterfly Wings,” the smash-hit single from the band’s last double album, 1995’s “Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness.”

Smashing Pumpkins “CYR” arrives Nov. 27. Watch the first two episodes of “In Ashes” (above).
