Actor, comedian, and “Saturday Night Live” pioneer John Belushi’s incredible life and enduring legacy are celebrated in the trailer for Showtime’s “Belushi.”

Directed by R.J. Cutler (“Billie Eilish: The World’s a Little Blurry”), the documentary film chronicles the meteoric rise and tragic downfall of Belushi, whose drug-related death shook the world in 1982.

The doc tells the beloved entertainer’s story through a combination of John’s own words, rare footage, and conversations with those closest to him, including wife Judy Belushi and brother Jim Belushi as well as “SNL” creator Lorne Michaels and longtime collaborator Dan Aykroyd. Other celebrities featured in “Belushi” include original “SNL” cast members Chevy Chase and Jane Curtain, director and “Animal House” producer Ivan Reitman, and the late Hollywood stars Penny Marshall, Carrie Fisher, and Harold Ramis.

“We fell in love the moment we met. It was just high wattage since day one,” Aykroyd says at one point (above) over footage of his “Blues Brothers” co-star living life to the fullest.

When Dan visited the Stern Show in 2015 he opened up to Howard all about his relationship with Belushi as well as his plan to involve him in “Ghostbusters,” how he learned of his death, and the steps he took to help him kick his bad habits. “I flushed a lot of coke down the toilet,” Aykroyd said during the interview. “Belushi” premieres Sunday, Nov. 22 at 9 p.m. on Showtime.
