“We know ‘Kashmir’ is probably the greatest riff of all time. I mean it’s just ballsy,” he notes of the iconic Led Zeppelin tune

Having already been enlisted to name the greatest drummer to ever pick up the sticks, on Tuesday Howard was asked to use his musical expertise once more, this time to decipher the three greatest rock riffs of all time. “We know ‘Kashmir’ is probably the greatest riff of all time. I mean it’s just ballsy,” Howard told the caller Kyle of the Led Zeppelin hit before also naming Joe Walsh’s “Life’s Been Good” and Paul McCartney’s “Let Me Roll It.”

Kyle went on to give his own top three list, which Howard vehemently disagreed with. “No, no, no, it’s all wrong,” he responded before playing “Welcome to the Jungle” by Guns N’ Roses. “Listen to that, that’s a riff right there. Even if you had said ‘Hot for Teacher’ by Van Halen.”

Further demonstrating his point, Howard brought in Stern Show staffer and proven guitar maestro Steve Nowicki to play the famous Eddie Van Halen riff. Watch that performance (above).
