Free bleeding — the act of experiencing periods without using tampons, pads, or any other menstrual hygiene product — might have found a great deal of attention thanks to TikTok — but it’s a form of activism meant to destigmatize menstruation which dates back to the 1970s. Ever curious Stern Show staffer Samantha Fontana decided to see first-hand what the movement is all about.

“It was way bloodier, heavier, and messier than I thought it was going to be,” she told Howard Wednesday morning. “I would almost like cough, or do a character and scream or something, and I would feel the blood like shoot out …There was so much blood.”

Colleague Sal Governale didn’t like hearing about it, but Sam was quick to point out Sal’s own long history of oversharing. “He’s such a baby,” she observed. “We have to like to listen to his jerking off to grannies [stories] or whatever the fuck.”

“We have to get more comfortable talking about women’s bodies and men’s bodies and stop the nonsense,” co-host and former registered nurse Robin Quivers agreed.

“Women are a lot stronger than men,” Howard concluded, adding, “Being a woman is not for wimps.”
