Richard Christy loves anything Christmas and he has the bruises to prove it. The Stern Show staffer told Howard on Monday about his recent trip to Austria in order to go to the Krampus run, an annual event where Christmas demons whip and beat spectators along the parade route. Howard guessed that, if Richard was willing to fly nine and a half hours to attend, there must be booze involved.

“Anywhere he can drink like a fiend, he’ll fly there,” Howard told Robin.

“It was at a brewery, yeah. It was a blast,” Richard said. He also admitted to being covered in bruises afterwards due to being beaten so hard by those dressed up as demons, but he said it didn’t stop him from having a great time. “I loved it. It was fun. That’s part of the attraction,” Richard told Howard.

Beside the whipping, there was another local tradition that Richard enjoyed. “In Austria, you know Krampus is coming because they have a bell on each ass cheek,” Richard explained. “They jump up and down and shake their bells.”

Richard and his wife Kristin also did some holiday shopping at the Christmas stores in town that Richard described as “massive markets.”

“They don’t have that in America? Isn’t that called a mall?” Howard asked.

“It’s way better over there,” Richard explained, saying the big difference is that, in Austria, he can shop while sipping on gluhwein, a hot mulled wine alcoholic beverage.
