The rock band Spoon made an appearance in the Stern Show studio recently and delivered an impassioned rendition of John Lennon’s 1970 song “Isolation.” Howard debuted their cover Wednesday morning, applauding the Texas-based act for selecting such a great deep cut from the legendary Beatle’s solo catalogue.

“I remember the first time I heard this song ‘Isolation.’ I went, ‘What a fucking song’ … John Lennon was beyond genius,” Howard told his listeners, adding, “But Spoon, we asked them to do something for our app. They walk into our studio and did ‘Isolation’ … which I thought was brilliant. Like, who would does a cover version of ‘Isolation’?”

Spoon is led by frontman Britt Daniel, a Wrap Up Show veteran who also delivered a cover of “Never Let Me Down” for the Howard Stern Tribute to David Bowie in 2018. On Wednesday, Howard was quick to note Britt’s charm extends beyond his skills as a singer.

“He’s a good looking, nice guy,” Howard noted just before playing “Isolation” (above). “My first thought was, ‘I feel Robin should marry this guy.’”

Howard’s co-host didn’t reveal whether she too felt a spark, but she did appreciate his rendition of the Lennon tune. “Yeah, that’s good,” Robin said after hearing it.

“Told you he was your husband,” Howard said with a laugh. “Beautiful, huh?”

Before leaving the Stern Show studio, Spoon also performed their original tune “Rent I Pay.” Check out that performance on the Howard Stern section of the Sirius XM app and to learn more about Spoon’s upcoming tour dates and their newly released compilation “Everything Hits at Once” click here.
