Caitlyn Jenner’s View on Gay Marriage Confuses Ellen

“She still has a judgment,” DeGeneres tells Howard during her Stern Show appearance

September 8, 2015

Despite having to fight for her own acceptance after coming out as transgender, Caitlyn Jenner may still be learning to accept gay marriage. The reality star sat down with Ellen DeGeneres during her talk show’s season premiere and shared how she feels about same-sex couples being allowed to wed in the U.S.

“She still has a judgment about gay marriage,” Ellen told Howard during her appearance on the Stern Show Tuesday morning. “You’re wanting people to understand and accept you, this is like, really confusing to people.”

Confusing indeed, considering Caitlyn has herself been a target of prejudice and intolerance, especially amongst conservative crowds. Ironically enough, Jenner still identifies as a supporter of the GOP.

“I think a lot of Republicans are wishing she wasn’t Republican,” Ellen joked.

Although she did not reveal how she and Jenner ended their sit-down, Ellen says she is “grateful” to have had Caitlyn on the show. She also admitted that even she still struggles with understanding Caitlyn’s situation, saying: “I don’t really know her and I’m trying to understand it because I don’t fully understand it either but I also want everyone to be happy.”

Perhaps the most shocking thing DeGeneres revealed was that Caitlyn did not dance at all during her time on her on the show, which is usually a requirement for all of Ellen’s guests.

“Maybe she didn’t want to dance with me because I’m a lesbian,” Ellen quipped.

The 13th season of “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” premieres Tuesday, Sep. 8. Check your local listings for time and channel info, or go to www.ellentv.com.
