AUDIO: Kendrick Lamar Drops ‘All the Stars,’ Lead Single Off ‘Black Panther’ Soundtrack He’s Producing for Marvel
Grammy-winning rapper and recent Stern Show guest teams up with SZA on the new song
January 4, 2018Kendrick Lamar and SZA are getting into the superhero game with “All the Stars,” a newly released collaboration serving as the lead single from Marvel’s upcoming “Black Panther” soundtrack.
Additionally, Marvel has revealed the rap icon and recent Stern Show guest will team up with music executive Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith to produce and curate the album with music from and inspired by next month’s eagerly anticipated film starring Chadwick Boseman as the titular hero.
“Marvel Studios’ ‘Black Panther’ is amazing, from its cast to its director. The magnitude of this film showcases a great marriage of art and culture. I’m truly honored to contribute my knowledge of producing sound and writing music alongside [director] Ryan [Coogler] and Marvel’s vision,” Lamar said in a statement.
“Black Panther: The Album” marks not only the first time the Grammy winner has written, performed, and produced a soundtrack of this scale, but also the first time a Marvel Cinematic Universe soundtrack has included multiple original recordings, according to the release.
The full track listing for “Black Panther: The Album” has not yet been announced, thus it’s unclear whether Kendrick plans to include Robin Quivers’ show-stopping cover of Cardi B’s “Bodak Yellow,” which he listened to and gave feedback on during his Stern Show debut.
“Black Panther,” co-starring Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Forest Whitaker, and Danai Gurira, slashes into theaters Feb. 16. Listen to Kendrick and SZA’s “All the Stars” (above).
