VIDEO: Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein Prepare to Say Goodbye in ‘Portlandia’ Season 8 Trailer

IFC sketch-comedy series returns Jan. 18 for a star-studded final season

January 4, 2018

IFC has dropped the Season 8 trailer for Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein’s hipster-skewering sketch-comedy series “Portlandia,” kicking off its final season later this month.

The clip (above) teases sketches with several of Fred and Carrie’s most iconic characters, like the feminist book store owners who seem to now be flirting with starting their own women’s health clinic, an aging rocker Spyke who’s to make punk music relevant again, the always intense Kath and Dave as they try to navigate an escape room, and of course a eulogy from the Goths.

The 10-episode season will feature returning guest stars Jeff Goldblum, Ed Begley Jr., Natasha Lyonne, Kyle MacLachlan, and Kumail Nanjiani as well as a handful of newcomers, including Rachel Bloom, Aidy Bryant, Terry Crews, Rashida Jones, and Tracee Ellis Ross.

Armisen, who created the show along with Brownstein and Jonathan Krisel, has joined the Stern Show several times over the years, whether appearing solo to discuss “Portlandia” or alongside his former “Saturday Night Live” colleagues Bill Hader and Seth Meyers to discuss their IFC series, “Documentary Now!” During his most recent visit, Fred shared a memorable story about a random encounter he once had with late music legend Prince. Listen to his conversation with Howard (below).

“Portlandia,” executive produced by “SNL” creator Lorne Michaels, returns Thursday, Jan. 18 at 10 p.m. on IFC.
