Bryan Cranston Borrows a Page From Ringo Starr and Retires From Signing Autographs

Bryan Cranston gave a message to his fans with peace and love this week – he won’t be signing any more autographs for them. The “Breaking Bad” star broke the bad news on social media, becoming the latest celeb to put an end to inking their name on any memorabilia.
“Friends, after 18 years of signing everything for fans – I’m retiring. Overwhelmed by requests and I just can’t do it anymore,” Bryan wrote. Check out his full tweet (below).

Cranston, who last visited the Stern Show in 2015, seems to be borrowing a page from Ringo Starr. Ten years ago, the Beatles drummer made his now legendary request for fans to stop sending him items to sign after decades of responding to nearly every piece of correspondence he received. Ringo’s “serious message,” which starts and ends with him telling his following he comes in “peace and love,” has been repeatedly played on the Stern Show.
Bryan and Ringo aren’t the only friends of the Stern Show who’ve stopped signing autographs, either. Many years ago, comedy icon Steve Martin adopted the practice of handing out personalized business cards to anyone who asked for an autograph. Stern Show celebrity superfan Jonah Hill reportedly gives his fans similar cards. Perhaps he presented JD Harmeyer and his girlfriend with one when he met them backstage at “Saturday Night Live” in 2016.
The silver lining in Cranston’s announcement is that it seems he’s still down for taking a quick selfie with those who ask, writing online, “I love meeting fans and will personalize pix in person.” So if you happen to see Walter White walking down the street, be sure to have your camera ready.
