VIDEO: Ed Sheeran, Chris Martin, and Queens of the Stone Age Celebrate Sir Elton John’s Legacy in ‘Revamp’ Trailer
Newly released tribute album includes tracks from Pink, Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus, and many more A-list artists
April 6, 2018Legendary music man Sir Elton John gets the royal treatment from chart-topping artists like Ed Sheeran, Queens of the Stone Age, and Coldplay in the trailer for “Revamp,” one of two newly released tribute albums celebrating the music of Elton and his longtime writing partner Bernie Taupin.
Other A-list artists covering some of the duo’s most revered hits for “Revamp” include past Stern Show guests Miley Cyrus, Pink, and Lady Gaga as well as Alessia Cara, Q-Tip, Demi Lovato, Mary J. Blige, the Killers, and more.
“It’s a compliment,” Elton explains in the compilation’s teaser (above). “It means a great deal when other people choose to sing one of our songs and reinterpret it in their own particular ways.”
“I’ve listened to Elton John since before I can remember listening to Elton John,” adds Sheeran, a Grammy-winning singer-songwriter who covered “Candle in the Wind” for the tribute and has discussed his relationship with Elton during past Stern Show visits.
“First time I heard ‘Candle in the Wind’ would’ve been [Princess] Diana’s funeral,” Ed explains. “I remember—I was six at the time—my dad bringing me and sitting me in front of the TV and being like, ‘This is really important.’”
Elton also shares his thoughts on Lady Gaga’s cover of his ballad “Your Song” in the clip. “A lot of these songs, they’re so connected with me, it’s very brave of [the artists] to do them,” he says. “Like Gaga doing ‘Your Song.’ She certainly gave it completely her own style when she did it.”
Some of the other tracks on “Revamp” include “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me” by Miley, “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” by Queens of the Stone Age, “Daniel” by Sam Smith, and “We All Fall in Love Sometimes” by Coldplay, whose frontman Chris Martin had kind words for Elton in the trailer. “He’s just someone I’m very happy to have met,” the rocker and repeat Stern Show guest explains.
“Revamp: The Songs of Elton John & Bernie Taupin” debuted Friday. Watch the trailer (above) and listen to Lady Gaga’s cover of “Your Song” (below).
