VIDEO: John Goodman Stars in the Alien Invasion Flick ‘Captive State’

2019 science-fiction film also features Vera Farmiga, Alan Ruck, and Machine Gun Kelly

Mankind has been subjugated by alien invaders for nearly a decade in the latest trailer for the 2019 science-fiction film “Captive State,” starring repeat Stern Show guest John Goodman.

Set in a dystopian Chicago neighborhood, the trailer (above) focuses on a conflict between human “dissidents” and “collaborators” with the dissidents looking to rebel against their alien overlords while the collaborators argue life really isn’t that bad under an authoritarian, extra-terrestrial regime. After all, crime rates and unemployment numbers are at all-time lows.

The trailer doesn’t spoil too many of the film’s surprises—Goodman’s character is shrouded in mystery and the alien creatures are only barely revealed—but it gives off “Purge” meets “Cloverfield” type vibes, blending action, violence, sci-fi elements, and social commentary in equal measure.

Directed by Rupert Wyatt (“Rise of the Planet of the Apes”), “Captive State” co-stars Ashton Sanders (“The Equalizer 2”), Jonathan Majors (“White Boy Rick”), Alan Ruck (“Succession”), Machine Gun Kelly (“The Dirt”), and Vera Farmiga, who also stars alongside Stern Show guest Hugh Jackman in the political drama “The Front Runner.

Goodman has joined the Stern Show multiple times over the past few years, most recently in March alongside Roseanne Barr. John’s last solo sit down with Howard came in 2016 while he was promoting an alien movie of a different sort, the J.J. Abrams-produced hit “10 Cloverfield Lane.” Check out more on that interview here.

“Captive State” invades theaters in March 29, 2019.
