VIDEO: David Spade Goes Skinny-Dipping in a Truck and Gets Body Slammed Off a Roof in ‘Father of the Year’ Trailer

Stern Show celebrity superfan's new comedy debuts July 20 on Netflix

June 29, 2018

David Spade stars as a dysfunctional dad who inadvertently destroys his son’s life in “Father of the Year,” an upcoming original comedy from Netflix and Adam Sandler’s Happy Madison production company.

The official trailer for the film (above) begins as an insecure, college-aged kid named Ben (Joey Bragg) is going skinny-dipping for the first time. After getting roasted by a coed (Bridgit Mendler) about the size of his manhood, Ben decides he should spend some time with his atypical father Wayne (Spade), whose hobbies include drinking, cursing, and skinny-dipping in the back of pick-up trucks.

Everything goes wrong, however, after Ben accidentally encourages his father to fight his best friend’s dad (Nat Faxon). The results of the brawl are disastrous and somehow its Ben who winds up getting arrested and losing his job. But Spade’s character is determined to redeem himself in the eyes of his son, even if it means wearing an ill-fitting suit to his kid’s tech company and transforming into a virtual reality kangaroo.

“Father of the Year” is far from the first Netflix film produced under Sandler’s Happy Madison banner. As previously reported, the comedian signed a huge deal with Netflix in 2014, renewed it three years later, and went on to produce several hit comedies for the digital streamer in recent years, including “The Week Of” — featuring Sandler, fellow Stern Show guest Chris Rock, and Stern Show staffer Ronnie “the Limo Driver” Mund and also “The Do-Over,” starring Sandler opposite Spade.

During his most recent Stern Show visit in May, Spade spoke with Howard about a variety of topics, including Hollywood’s love for the King of All Media. Take a listen to a clip from the conversation (below).
