Jack Black and Kyle Gass’s “Post-Apocalypto” features the famed Foo Fighters frontman on drums

Tenacious D has announced plans to rock fans’ socks off and melt their minds once more with a brand-new album and animated web series.

The Jack Black and Kyle Gass musical-comedy duo confirmed the news Tuesday and revealed Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl will be featured on the 21-song record, called “Post-Apocalypto,” with the rock legend and repeat Stern Show guest lending his hands to drum on the album.

Additionally, “Post-Apocalypto” will be accompanied by a six-part animated web series debuting later this month on Tenacious D’s YouTube channel. Hand drawn by Jack himself, the cartoon follows Tenacious D as they explore the ruined earth in the wake of civilization-destroying atomic bomb (which Kyle and Jack narrowly avoided by hiding in a refrigerator).

“With unimaginable twists and turns, an insane visit to the White House, a time machine, a space adventure, and the help of some tried and true daddy issues, ‘Post-Apocalypto’ is as hilarious as it is political, and as brilliant and multi-faceted as its incredible creators. The songs are damn good, too,” the series description reads. Watch a short teaser (above).

“Post-Apocalypto” is the duo’s first studio album since 2012’s “Rize of the Fenix,” which also featured Grohl on drums. Kyle and Jack stopped by the Stern Show that same year to discuss a range of topics, including the new album and how they’ve been inspired by musical comedy acts like Lonely Island and Flight of the Conchords. “We had to take it up a notch,” Jack explained to Howard. “The only way we could compete with them was to take it more seriously.”

Tenacious D’s album “Post-Apocalypto” is available Nov. 2 and the band’s new comedy series debuts Sept. 28 on YouTube. Get more information here.
