VIDEO: Charlize Theron Takes a Wild Ride in Trailer for Competitive Driving Show ‘Hyperdrive’

Stern Show guest also executive produces the series, debuting Aug. 21 on Netflix

Oscar-winning actress Charlize Theron has starred in scores of high-octane thrillers over the years, from “The Italian Job” to “Mad Max: Fury Road” and “The Fate of the Furious.” But perhaps none of those roles could have prepared her for this one.

Netflix has just released the first trailer for Charlize’s upcoming competitive driving series “Hyperdrive” which pits elite street racers against one another on menacing automotive obstacle courses.

Hosted by actor and UFC fighter Michael Bisping, the show is described as an open invitation build and race tournament in which contestants are tested on everything from their driving skills and mechanical ingenuity to their emotional resilience.

Charlize puts herself to the test, too. She makes an appearance in the trailer which begins with her scoping out a supercharged custom car and ends with her riding shotgun and holding on for dear life while the driver does a few vicious donuts in the sand. “Oh my God!” Charlize yells at one point (above) while the car spins in circles.

Theron last appeared on the Stern Show in April alongside her “Long Shot” co-star Seth Rogen where she opened up to Howard about everything from her love life to some of the projects she’s currently producing. “Hyperdrive,” as it turns out, isn’t her only show arriving on Netflix later this month. She’s also executive producing “Mindhunter” which returns Aug. 16 for its second season.

“Hyperdrive” starts its engines Aug. 21 on Netflix.
