VIDEO: Snoop Dogg and Cardi B Seek Out Hip Hop’s Next Big Star in ‘Rhythm + Flow’ Trailer

Chance the Rapper and T.I. co-star on Netflix’s upcoming music competition series

September 25, 2019

From “American Idol” to Nick Cannon’s “The Masked Singer,” 2019 has plenty of music-centered, competitive reality series to go around. But in the trailer for Netflix’s new show about the search for a breakout hip-hop star, Snoop Dogg makes it clear “Rhythm + Flow” stands apart from the rest.

“This ain’t ‘The Voice,’ motherfucker,” the repeat Stern Show guest tells one contestant (above).

“Rhythm + Flow” is a three-week event following rap icons turned judges Chance the Rapper, T.I., and 2018 Stern Show guest Cardi B as they travel to L.A., Atlanta, Chicago, and New York to uncover raw talent and help undiscovered artists make it big. If contestants can pass a grueling round of auditions, they’ll go head-to-head against each other in rap battles and other challenges to see if they have what it takes to make a name for themselves in the world of hip hop.

“You ain’t gotta be gangster, you gotta be real,” T.I. says in the trailer.

“We’re looking for that ‘it,’” Cardi B adds.

Thankfully, industry veterans like Snoop, Lupe Fiasco, Killer Mike, Miguel, DJ Khaled, and the late Nipsey Hussle were around for the filming to lend the contestants a hand.

During Snoop’s last visit to the Stern Show he actually opened up about one of his own big breaks in the rap biz, which came by way of an audition for his eventual collaborator Dr. Dre. “Now that I look back at it, I was controlled. I was in the pocket,” Snoop told Howard in 2018.

“Rhythm + Flow” drops Oct. 9 on Netflix with new episodes arriving Oct. 16 and Oct. 23.
