The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s newest superhero fights a familiar comic-book foe in the official trailer for “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” hitting theaters Sept. 3.

Simu Liu stars as Shang-Chi, a skilled martial artist who must confront a past he thought he’d left behind after he’s drawn into the mysterious Ten Rings organization run by his father, the nefarious Mandarin (Tony Leung).

“You’re just a criminal who murders people,” Shang-Chi tells his pops at one point (above).

“Be careful how you speak to me, boy,” responds Mandarin, who just so happens to possess the titular Ten Rings, a magical artifact granting its wielder unfathomable power.

Awkwafina and Michelle Yeoh co-star in “Shang-Chi,” directed and co-written by Destin Daniel Cretton of “Just Mercy” and “Short Term 12” fame. The Marvel movie also boasts the return of the Gamma ray-fueled villain Abomination (Tim Roth), who notably battled Edward Norton’s incarnation of the Hulk in 2008’s “The Incredible Hulk” and now faces off against Shang-Chi in “Ten Rings.”

“Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” arrives Sept. 3 in theaters.
