Neil Young and Crazy Horse Drop Grungy, Guitar-Driven ‘Break the Chain’ Music Video

Song appears on rock legend’s Rick Rubin-produced album “World Record”

At 76 years old, the Godfather of Grunge is still living up to his nickname.

Rock legend Neil Young and his longtime band Crazy Horse have dropped a grainy new music video of them recording their grungy, guitar-driven track “Break the Chain.” Directed by Bernard Shakey, the lo-fi clip begins with a few seconds of chatter before Neil picks up his guitar and starts melting faces. The video ends with impressed onlookers saying, “That was fucking banging!” “Holy shit,” and “Even the console’s smoking.”

“Break the Chain” is the second single off Neil’s November album “World Record.” The album – like the video for “Break the Chain” – was recorded live at producer Rick Rubin’s famed Shangri-La studio in Malibu, California. The 11-track effort is Young’s 42nd studio album and his 15th collaboration with Crazy Horse, following last year’s “Barn.” A well-known audiophile, Young will release “World Record” as a three-sided double album on vinyl as well as on CD, cassette, and digital platforms.

Neil has sat down with Howard several times over the years, most recently in 2021 to discuss “Barn,” world events, and everything in between. Hear what the rock icon said about parting ways with Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young (below) and check out more of the interview here.

Neil Young and Crazy Horse’s “World Record” drops Nov. 18.
