“Dark Knight” director Christopher Nolan tackles another dark subject matter in the new trailer for “Oppenheimer,” a biographical drama about the race to build nuclear weapons during World War II.
Cillian Murphy stars as nuclear physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer, who heads up Los Alamos Laboratories as a team of scientists develop the atomic bomb and try not to blow up the planet in the process.
“Are you saying there’s a chance that when we push that button, we destroy the world?” asks Matt Damon, who plays an Army Corps of Engineers general and the director of the Manhattan Project.
“Chances are near zero,” Murphy’s character responds.
Written by Nolan, “Oppenheimer” also stars Emily Blunt as Oppenheimer’s wife, Kitty, alongside an all-star cast featuring Robert Downey Jr., Florence Pugh, Benny Safdie, Josh Hartnett, Rami Malek, Kenneth Branagh, Jack Quaid, and Tom Conti as Albert Einstein.
“Oppenheimer” opens July 21 in theaters.
