Sal Governale Unveils List of 57 ‘Booey Blunders’ for Gary Dell’Abate’s 57th Birthday
But did the Stern Show staffer ruin the surprise with a mistake of his own?
The Stern Show celebrated Gary Dell’Abate’s 57th birthday in a variety of ways on Wednesday, including with Sal Governale putting together a list of the executive producer’s so-called 57 “biggest fuck-ups” over the years.
Howard initially praised Sal for crafting the list, but before he could share it on air, Gary revealed he had also made a list of his own which highlighted what he felt were some of Sal’s biggest mistakes.
Howard wondered how Gary could have already prepared his own list, considering the list Sal created was supposed to be a birthday surprise. As it turned out, Gary learned of the list in advance after finding a folder on the office network called “Booey’s Blunders,” which contained all of Sal’s notes for the segment.
Gary said he simply stumbled across the folder on his computer, but Sal wasn’t buying it and accused him snooping. “He should’ve minded his own business,” Sal told Howard.
Stern Show co-host Robin Quivers disagreed. “No, you put it in a community box!” she said.
“You left it on the street for me to see it,” Gary argued.
“Nah, that’s not true. Somebody tipped him off,” Sal insisted.
Regardless of how Gary discovered Sal’s plan to roast him on his birthday, Howard allowed them both to share their lists, instructing them to take turns reading off some of the items.
“Number one, ‘[Gary] went to sleep during the show,’” Sal began. “Disgusting.”
The staffers pulled no punches from there, touching upon everything from Gary bothering Bradley Cooper at the 2015 White House Correspondents Dinner, de-friending Howard on Facebook, and writing “slow down” notes to Sal oversleeping during an important announcement, misspelling “cemetery,” and more. All in all, it was a fascinating trip down memory lane and a fitting way to celebrate Gary turning 57.
Happy birthday, Baba Booey!
