Start-Up Will Fill Your Veins With Precious, Precious Youth Blood
California-based company Ambrosia is experimenting with age-fighting transfusions
January 17, 2017Has the slow, inevitable march of time got your joints aching, your face sagging, and your mind depleting? Well, the good folks at Ambrosia may have the answer you’ve been seeking — the blood of the young!
Indeed, the Monterey, California-based start-up is currently enrolling participants in a clinical trial designed to discover the effects of young blood transported into old bodies. The experimental process will essentially be a simple blood transfusion, but participants will have to throw down $8,000.
Ambrosia co-founder Jesse Karmazin truly believes that young blood could be key to fighting the aging process. The idea reportedly came when he watched dozens of blood transfusions while a medical student at Stanford. “Some patients got young blood and others got older blood and I was able to do some statistics on it, and the results looked really awesome,” he told Business Insider. “And I thought, this is the kind of therapy that I’d want to be available to me.”
However, professionals in the field are unsure if Karmazin’s approach will be effective. “There’s just no clinical evidence [that the treatment will be beneficial], and you’re basically abusing people’s trust and the public excitement around this,” Stanford University neuroscientist Tony Wyss-Coray said in a Science Magazine article published last August.
However, Business Insider reports Karmazin claims to have performed the procedure on around 30 people so far, and he’s already seen his subjects benefit from improved muscle tone and renewed focus.
