Indie film costars Judy Greer, Michael Cera, Gillian Jacobs, and Jeff Garlin

Magnolia Pictures launched a trailer this week for the off-kilter indie comedy “Lemon.” Director Janicza Bravo and husband Brett Gelman teamed up to write this film about an unusual man dealing with real-world situations, including his girlfriend leaving him after 10 years.

The name “Lemon,” meaning defective or imperfect, says it all. The official synopsis reads: “Isaac Lachmann is a dud. Isaac Lachmann is 40. Isaac Lachmann is a man in free fall immobilized by mediocrity. His career is going nowhere. His girlfriend of ten years is leaving him. And his overbearing family doesn’t help matters. What did he do to deserve this? Things were supposed to work out differently for him. Isaac Lachmann had big dreams. Now he just watches as life unravels.”

In the trailer (above), “Lemon” appears to deliver deadpan comedy from an offbeat angle. It also features an impressive slew of stars who’ve mastered that. Alongside Gelman (“The Other Guys”), the film includes past Stern Show guest Jeff Garlin (“Curb Your Enthusiasm”), Wrap Up Show alum Gillian Jacobs (“Community”), Judy Greer (“Arrested Development”), Michael Cera (“Superbad”), Shiri Appleby (“UnREAL”), and Megan Mullally (“Will & Grace”).

“Lemon” premieres in theaters, VOD, and Amazon on Aug. 18.
