Netflix Sells Strains of Weed Named After Some of Their Hit Shows
Digital streamer offers fans marijuana to smoke while watching series like “Orange Is the New Black,” "Arrested Development," and “Chelsea”
August 28, 2017Experts have long debated over whether marijuana is a “gateway drug,” but now Netflix finds itself hoping weed might be a gateway to something else—TV binging.
The digital streaming giant recently teamed up with a medical marijuana dispensary in West Hollywood, Calif., to offer up different strains of pot based on many of its most popular shows, including “Orange Is the New Black,” “BoJack Horseman,” and “Arrested Development.”
The so-called Netflix Collection was created to market “Disjointed,” its weed-infused Kathy Bates sitcom which debuted on Friday. The pop-up dispensary, which ran Friday through Sunday, sold over a dozen strains of the drug to anyone over 21 with a medical marijuana card. Of the strains, three were dedicated to “Disjointed” and the others were inspired by other Netflix shows, including a Camp Firewood strain for “Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later” and a Vodkush strain for Chelsea Handler’s talk show “Chelsea.”
Even some of the shows’ social media accounts got in on the reefer madness:

In press materials, Netflix said it wasn’t profiting from the sales of its various marijuana products and only offered them up for promotional purposes. Get more information on the story here.
