Matthew McConaughey, Jane Fonda, Dave Chappelle, and Emily Blunt to Present at 2018 Oscars
Jimmy Kimmel returns to host the 90th Academy Awards, airing Sunday on ABC
February 27, 2018Fifteen more celebrity presenters have been added to the 2018 Oscar lineup. The newly announced group includes an “EGOT” winner in Rita Moreno, an action hero in “Black Panther’s” Lupita Nyong’o, and Stern Show veterans Matthew McConaughey, Dave Chappelle, Emily Blunt, and Jane Fonda.
“These actors have embodied some of the most heroic, aspirational and indelible characters ever brought to the screen,” producers Michael De Luca and Jennifer Todd said in statement. “In so doing, they’ve not only entertained the world but illuminated the full range of the human experience.”
Fonda has been nominated for seven Oscars throughout her career, winning her first in 1972 for playing a call-girl in “Klute.” When the actress made her Stern Show debut in January, however, she told Howard the research she did for the role almost made her quit the project altogether. McConaughey, meanwhile, starred in quite a few romantic comedies before transitioning to more traditional Oscar fare and then finally nabbing a statue with “Dallas Buyers Club” in 2014. He explained his career shift in detail during his 2017 conversation with Howard. Listen to a clip from the interview (below).
Other new additions for the 90th Academy Awards are Jodie Foster, Sandra Bullock, Eugenio Derbez, Ansel Elgort, Eiza González, Ashley Judd, Nicole Kidman, Helen Mirren, and Christopher Walken. They join a large group of previously announced presenters, including Pulitzer Prize winner Lin-Manuel Miranda, “Star Wars: The Last Jedi’s” Mark Hamill, “I, Tonya’s” Margot Robbie, and recent “Saturday Night Live” hosts Kumail Nanjiani (“The Big Sick”) and Gal Gadot (“Wonder Woman”), among others.
Presenting on the Oscar stage might seem as simple as opening an envelope and reading a name, but last year’s event will likely long be remembered for the onstage fiasco which occurred after celebrity presenters Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty announced “La La Land” as Best Picture … even though “Moonlight” had actually won the big prize.
2017 Oscars host Jimmy Kimmel discussed the headline-making mishap last August on the Stern Show, revealing it prevented him from paying tribute to the King of All Media by dropping a “Hit ‘em with the Hein” before the end of the ceremony.
Thankfully for Stern Show fans, Kimmel will have another opportunity this Sunday when he returns to host the 90th Academy Awards, broadcast live at 8 p.m. ET from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California.
