Roger Daltrey Teases New Album With ‘As Long as I Have You’ Cover
The 74-year-old Who frontman is set to release his 9th solo album in June
March 16, 2018On the title track for Roger Daltrey’s upcoming album, he delivers a soulful and bluesy rendition of “As Long as I Have You,” a Garnet Mimms song originally laid down in 1964. The cover serves as a preview for his 9th solo LP, set for release June 1st.
“As Long as I Have You” is a “return to the very beginning, to the time before Pete [Townshend] started writing our songs, to a time when we were a teenage band playing soul music to small crowds in church halls,” Roger said in a statement. “That’s what we were, a soul band. And now, I can sing soul with all the experience you need to sing it. Life puts the soul in. I’ve always sung from the heart but when you’re 19, you haven’t had the life experience with all its emotional trials and traumas that you have by the time you get to my age.”
At 74 years old, the Who frontman has maintained a powerful voice and when he stopped by the Stern Show in 2015, Daltrey told Howard how he goes about taking care of his valuable asset. Listen (below) and check out more from his interview here.
“As Long as I Have You” features Roger’s Who bandmate Pete Townshend and is produced by Dave Eringa. The album includes a mix of original tracks and covers of songs by the likes of Stevie Wonder, Nick Cave, and Stephen Stills.
