Felicity Jones of “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” fame portrays a young Ruth Bader Ginsburg in “On the Basis of Sex,” a Mimi Leder-directed historical drama about the eventual Supreme Court Justice’s formative years as a ferocious opponent of gender-based discrimination.
The official trailer for Focus Features' forthcoming film (above) shows Jones as Ginsburg giving out all sorts of inspired speeches as she's supported by an all-star cast of allies, including “Call Me by Your Name's” Armie Hammer as her husband Marty, “Misery” Oscar winner Kathy Bates as a seasoned political activist, and "Leftovers" star Justin Theroux as an A.C.L.U. attorney with an interest in Ginsburg's cause. Together they hope to shine a light on discrimination in America and perhaps even change the laws of the land for the better.
2018 is shaping up to be a big year in Hollywood for films about Justice Ginsburg, who will soon be celebrating her 25th anniversary on the Supreme Court bench. In addition to “On the Basis of Sex,” the documentary “RBG” was released back in May to critical praise.
“On the Basis of Sex,” also starring Cailee Spaeny and Sam Waterston, is in session Dec. 25. Check out the official trailer (above).
