VIDEO: Samuel L. Jackson Says He’s Sick of Being Compared to Laurence Fishburne in New ‘Shaft’ Red Band Trailer

Jessie T. Usher and Richard Roundtree co-star in the June 14 action-comedy sequel

Samuel L. Jackson proves swagger works better when paired with swear words in the profanity-laced trailer for his new “Shaft” sequel, opening later this month.

The Oscar-nominated actor and repeat Stern Show guest stars as super cool detective John Shaft II in the upcoming action-comedy, a follow-up to Jackson and the late John Singleton’s 2000 installment of the same name. In this one, he’s flanked both by his uncle, the original Shaft (Richard Roundtree), and his estranged son John “JJ” Shaft Jr. (Jessie T. Usher), an F.B.I. analyst who apparently missed out on all the hip genes.

“What the fuck are you wearing?” Jackson asks JJ after seeing him in one scene.

Of course, there’s more to Shaft than just his street smarts and style—he’s also known for having a way with the ladies. Or so he thinks until asking one young woman if they’d previously been intimate. “No, Papi,” she tells him. “I’d remember fucking a black guy dressed like Morpheus from ‘Matrix.’”

Jackson fires off a round from his gun in disgust. “I’m sick of these Laurence Fishburne comparisons,” he says. “The shit’s getting old.”

“Shaft” hits theaters June 14.
