A warrior returns home for one last fight in the explosive new trailer for Sylvester Stallone’s “Rambo: Last Blood,” opening in September.

The Stern Show veteran once again stars as John Rambo, the legendary action hero who made his first appearance nearly 37 years ago in “First Blood.” In the first film, Rambo was a special forces veteran who got sucked into a small-town battle while trying to mind his own business. In “Last Blood,” he must return home to confront his past and rescue a niece in peril.

“I finally came home to defend the only family I’ve ever known. All she’s got is me,” Stallone declares in the booby trap, bow & arrow, and explosion-filled trailer (above).

“Rambo: Last Blood” co-stars Paz Vega, Sergio Peris-Mencheta, Adriana Barraza, and Yvette Monreal. The film was directed by Adrian Grunberg from a script written by Matt Cirulnick and Stallone himself.

Sly has of course written and co-written several well received scripts before, including “Rocky,” “The Expendables,” and “First Blood,” the last of which he adapted from a book. While “First Blood” eventually went on to launch a successful franchise, Stallone confessed to Howard in 2005 that he was originally worried the film was way too long. Luckily for “Rambo” fans, he eventually convinced filmmakers to whittle it down from three hours to a crisp 93 minutes.

“I said, ‘Here’s a good idea: Cut out all my dialogue, every line,’” Sylvester recounted during his visit to the Stern Show. Watch a clip from his interview with Howard (below).

“Rambo: Last Blood” opens Sept. 20 in theaters.
