VIDEO: Gal Gadot Rides Lightning and Fights Crime at the Mall in First ‘Wonder Woman 1984’ Trailer

Chris Pine, Kristen Wiig, and Pedro Pascal co-star in the Patty Jenkins-directed superhero sequel

Gal Gadot rides a bolt of lightning and fights crime at the mall in the official trailer for “Wonder Woman 1984,” arriving in June.

Set between the events of “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice”—which introduced the DC Comics heroine to the big screen—and her World War I-era spinoff released in 2017, “Wonder Woman 1984” tracks Gadot’s eternally youthful Amazon princess as she battles a cacophony of antagonists, including businessman Maxwell Lord (“Game of Thrones” and “Narcos” star Pedro Pascal) and archaeologist Barbara Ann Minerva (“Saturday Night Live” veteran” Kristen Wiig), a.k.a. Cheetah.

As the vibrantly colored, ubiquitously ‘80s trailer begins, Wonder Woman’s alter ego Diana Prince is chatting with Barbara about old flames. “Have you ever been in love?” Wiig asks (above).

“A long, long time ago,” Gadot responds over imagery of Steve Trevor (Chris Pine), her character’s love interest from the first film who sacrificed his life during a climactic battle.

The two-and-a-half minute clip contains plenty of memorable moments, from twirling lassos and machine gunfire aplenty to Wonder Woman’s aforementioned mall fight and electric sky ride. But even a literal bolt of lightning fails to be as shocking as the trailer’s big reveal: Steve Trevor has survived and, somehow, hasn’t even aged a day.

Directed by franchise veteran Patty Jenkins, “WW84” also features the return of actresses Robin Wright and Connie Nielsen.

“Wonder Woman 1984” opens June 5.
