VIDEO: An Angsty Teen Develops Unexpected Superpowers in ‘I Am Not Okay With This’ Trailer
Sophia Lillis stars on the graphic novel-inspired Netflix series
February 21, 2020A teenage girl struggling to fit in at her high school faces an altogether different set of problems after developing superpowers in “I Am Not Okay With This,” an upcoming Netflix series based on the Charles Forsman graphic novel of the same name.
Sydney (“It” actress Sophia Lillis) describes herself as an ill-tempered but otherwise “boring” 17-year-old. In between images of her kicking over trash cans and snapping pencils in half, it becomes clear her social circle consists only of her occasionally shoeless neighbor Stanley (“It” actor Wyatt Oleff) and dance-happy best friend Dina (Sofia Bryant). Sydney’s dad is dead, her mother is distant, and her frustration with life is boiling over.
What really sets her apart from other angsty teens, though, are her bizarre superpowers which one day manifest without warning. Suddenly, Sydney can wreak havoc in a convenience store with her mind and shoot bowling balls clear across the room without touching them.
“Dear diary, what the hell is going on with me?” she wonders (above) as a strange brand of chaos ensues.
The series hails from Jonathan Entwistle, the director and executive producer of “The End of the Fucking World,” another Forsman-inspired Netflix offering, and the producers behind the digital streamer’s award-winning genre-bender “Stranger Things.” “I Am Not Okay With This” co-stars Richard Ellis, Kathleen Rose Perkins, and Aidan Wojtak-Hissong.
“I Am Not Okay With This” debuts Feb. 26 on Netflix.
