VIDEO: Charlize Theron Plays a Foul-Mouthed Weed Exec in Redband Trailer for ‘Gringo'

David Oyelowo, Joel Edgerton, and Amanda Seyfried also star in the raunchy dark comedy, hitting theaters March 9

If the newly released redband trailer for “Gringo” is any indication, dealing weed is a dangerous business—even after it’s been somewhat legalized.

The trailer (above) for Amazon Studios’ upcoming raunchy comedy begins in a boardroom as Richard (Joel Edgerton) and Elaine (Charlize Theron), two cutthroat pharmaceutical executives, are delivering a sales pitch for their bioengineered medical marijuana pill Cannabax. When facts and figures about the booming industry don’t win the buyers over, Elaine seals the deal with an impassioned speech.

From there, the duo sends their down-on-his-luck underling Harold (David Oyelowo) on a business trip to Mexico to deliver the pill's formula to a lab. But the titular gringo’s life takes a turn for the worse when a brutal, Beatles-loving cartel kingpin known as The Black Panther kidnaps him and demands a hefty ransom.

When Harold calls up Charlize’s character and tells her there’s a gun to his head, however, the recent Stern Show guest and star of action-heavy films like “Atomic Blonde” and “Mad Max: Fury Road” is anything but sympathetic.

“What a fucking crybaby,” Charlize says in the trailer, later adding, “This is a fucking clusterfuck!”

When Charlize visited the show in July, she spoke to Howard about her real-life weed use—or lackthereof. “I can’t smoke weed anymore,” she told him. “I just become so uninteresting. I don’t want to talk … I switch off, I have nothing to say.”
