Sylvester Stallone Cautions Michael B. Jordan Against Battling Russia’s Baddest Boxer in ‘Creed II’ Trailer

The Sly-penned “Rocky” spinoff steps into the ring on Nov. 21

June 20, 2018

A family rivalry is renewed in “Creed II,” the November sequel to 2015’s critically acclaimed “Rocky” spinoff starring Michael B. Jordan as Adonis Creed and past Stern Show guest Sylvester Stallone as Rocky Balboa.

In the first “Creed” film, Sly’s iconic Italian Stallion trained the burgeoning boxer to follow in the footsteps of his dead dad, Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers). In the follow-up (above), however, things get a bit more personal as young Adonis is pitted against Viktor Drago (Florian “Big Nasty” Munteanu), the son of Ivan Drago (Dolph Lundgren), a.k.a. the villain who killed Apollo in “Rocky IV.”

This time around, Rocky does everything he can to prevent a Creed from getting beat to death by a Drago. “In the ring you got rules. Outside you got nothing. Life hits you with all these cheap shots,” Sly’s character tells Jordan’s (above). “You got everything to lose. This guy’s got nothing to lose.”

But Creed, desperate to avenge his father’s death, isn’t buying it. “I want to rewrite history,” he says. “It may not seem like it now, but this is more than just a fight.”

“Creed II” is directed by Steven Caple Jr. and co-written by Stallone himself, who also penned the original “Rocky” in 1976 as well as “The Expendables,” which he discussed with Howard in 2010 during his most recent Stern Show appearance. “Creed II” co-stars real-life boxer Andre Ward as well as “Rocky” franchise veterans Phylicia Rashad, Wood Harris, and Tessa Thompson of “Thor: Ragnarok” fame. Though not shown in the trailer, the film also features the return of action star Dolph Lundgren, whose 2018 comeback tour also includes the submarine thriller “Black Water” with Jean-Claude Van Damme.

The opening bell rings for “Creed II” on Nov. 21. Watch the official trailer (above).
