VIDEO: Danny McBride Is a Disgruntled Homeowner Who Turns to Kidnapping and Violence in ‘Arizona’
Darkly comedic action-thriller co-stars Rosemarie DeWitt, Kaitlin Olson, and past Stern Show guests Luke Wilson and David Alan Grier
August 13, 2018Danny McBride goes from disgruntled homeowner to violent criminal in “Arizona,” a darkly comedic action-thriller co-starring Rosemarie DeWitt (“La La Land”) and past Stern Show guests David Alan Grier and Luke Wilson.
Set in 2009 at the height of the housing crisis, the trailer (above) follows Cassie (DeWitt), a real estate agent and single mom struggling to stay afloat, and Sonny (McBride), a perturbed past client who blames realtors for his inability to sell his house.
Cassie’s life gets turned upside down after Sonny decides to exact his revenge, first by brutalizing her boss and later by kidnapping her and tying her up in his home. Despite being angry at the world, however, Sonny retains his manners.
“You say whatever you gotta say to close the deal, don’t ya?” he asks Cassie while she’s tied up in his living room —just before petting her dog and inviting her on a tour of the house.
But as the situation begins to spin out of control, his temperament sours. The trailer soon takes on a creepier and considerably more bloody tone. McBride is of course no stranger to mixing violence with comedy, including starring opposite Stern Show veterans James Franco and Seth Rogen in the stoner comedy “Pineapple Express,” but his character in “Arizona” may well have an even darker edge.
Directed by Jonathan Watson and co-starring Kaitlin Olson (“It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) and Elizabeth Gillies (“Dynasty”), “Arizona” hits theaters and VOD on Aug. 24.
