Luke Cage has become Harlem’s most celebrated defender in the official trailer for the sophomore season of his standalone Netflix series, but that doesn’t make him immune from an old-fashioned ass-kicking.
Released Monday, the newly released trailer (above) for the Marvel-Netflix show begins with Mike Colter’s bulletproof character strutting through the streets of his neighborhood, having both cleared his name with the cops and saved New York City from a Sigourney Weaver-flavored variety of doom on Marvel's recent team-up series "The Defenders."
Luke's sunny disposition takes a turn for the dour, however, after he runs into a bulletproof bad guy named the Bushmaster (Mustafa Shakir), who serves Luke up a sidewalk beating he won’t soon forget—especially after footage of the one-sided fight shows up online.
Luke’s returning sidekicks include Claire Temple (Rosario Dawson), a hero-healing nurse who has shown up on nearly all of Netflix’s previous Marvel shows, and a one-armed cop named Misty Knight (Simone Missick). Additionally, the new trailer also sees Season 1 villain Mariah Dillard (Alfre Woodard) making her ominous return.
“Luke Cage” Season 2 premieres June 22 on Netflix. Watch the official trailer (above).
