VIDEO: Gerard Butler Stars as a Secret Service Agent Turned Fugitive in ‘Angel Has Fallen’ Trailer

Aug. 23 action sequel co-stars Jada Pinkett Smith, Morgan Freeman, and Nick Nolte

Repeat Stern Show guest Gerard Butler returns as a Secret Service agent once again tasked with saving the president in the upcoming action sequel “Angel Has Fallen,” but when his rescue attempt goes awry he winds up on the run from his very own government agency.

The trailer begins with Agent Banning (Butler) enjoying a quiet fishing trip with the president (Morgan Freeman), who has just offered him the job of Secret Service Director. Before the two can celebrate the promotion with a champagne toast, however, they’re assaulted by a deadly fleet of drones.

Banning gets hurt saving POTUS and winds up in the hospital, but instead of waking up to a Medal of Freedom and a gaggle of Get Well cards, he wakes up to an F.B.I. agent (fellow Stern Show veteran Jada Pinkett Smith) charging him with attempted murder. Gerard goes on the lam and eventually solicits help from his estranged, reclusive father (Nick Nolte), so he can strike back at the bad guys and gals who framed him for the attempted assassination.

“You can’t hide from us, Banning,” one antagonist says over the phone.

“Don’t worry about finding me,” Butler responds. “I’ll find you.”

“Angel Has Fallen,” a sequel to 2013’s “Olympus Has Fallen” and 2016 “London Has Fallen,” is directed by Ric Roman Waugh from a screenplay by Waugh, Robert Mark Kamen, and Matt Cook. Lance Reddick, Tim Blake Nelson, Piper Perabo, and Danny Huston co-star in the film alongside Butler, who has appeared in several recent movies where his character is tasked with everything from saving world leaders to the planet itself.

“Angel Has Fallen” opens Aug. 23.
